San
Francisco's African-American residents experience the highest
all-cause mortality rates in the
city: rates twice those of whites and 3 - 4 times the rates
of the city's healthiest groups -- Asian/Pacific Islanders
and Latino/as. Over the past two years, the African-American
Telehealth Project has utilized the power of the internet
to inform and organize community residents in order to address
this crisis.
While the project is winding
down, it has resulted in the creation of four "living"
sites, two maintained by E-Clubs composed of community residents,
two maintained by community-based organizations. This web
site was initially launched to support their training and
planning efforts. We have decided to maintain the site as
a resource for agencies, community groups and individuals
interested in launching similar projects.
The site is divided into the following sections:
- ABOUT AATP:
Background information on the project, including information
on the participating community sites.
- LESSONS:
Preview training manual contents and download training
manuals in MS Word or PDF format.
- RESOURCES:
Annotated lists of links to resources for community
program planning, reliable health information, and web
site development.
