HANDALA.ORG: Handala is a 10-year-old refugee boy whose means "bitterness" in Arabic. He is the creation of assassinated Palestinian political cartoonist, Naji Al-Ali. Working with a group of artists, am designing and will maintain this site, which uses Naji Al-Ali’s cartoons as a vehicle for educating Americans about the history and political plight of the Palestinian people. http://www.handala.org

AFRICAN-AMERICAN TELEHEALTH PROJECT, SAN FRANCISCO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH (ongoing): Develop training curricula for this ground-breaking project, the goals of which are to bridge the "digital divide" within the African-American community while using the internet as a health education and community organizing tool. Work with adult residents of various African-American communities to develop health-related web sites with a community organizing focus.

CALIFORNIA STATE OFFICE OF FAMILY PLANNING: Through the Center for Health Training and PPA/SF, planned and conducted trainings in STDs/HIV, family planning, pregnancy counseling, and cultural competency issues for paraprofessionals, nurses, and nurse practitioners.

FAMILY PLANNING PROGRAM, SAN FRANCISCO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH (ongoing): Grant-writing, program planning, training and evaluation in the areas of family planning and HIV testing and counseling. Have raised over $300,000 for this program between June 2001 through November 2001.

GOLDEN GATE REGIONAL CENTER: Provided 24 hour training course in sexuality and disability for managers of residential adult group homes.

HEALTH PROMOTION AND PREVENTION DIVISION, SAN FRANCISCO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH: Grant writing services and staff trainings in cultural competency.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD ALAMEDA/SAN FRANCISCO (PPA/SF): Developed, conducted, and evaluated a sexuality training series that was attended by managers and front-line staff from youth-serving agencies in San Francisco. Topics included group facilitation and crisis counseling skills, working with multicultural groups, family planning, STDs/HIV, sexual orientation, high-risk youth issues.

THE WEDGE PROGRAM, Health Educator: Wrote proposals, developed curricula, co-trained volunteer speakers and educators, designed and conducted program evaluations; coordinated special projects; created and managed the program's website. Founded Free Zone, a ground-breaking, collaborative arts and media program for sexual minority youth.

FAMILY HEALTH BUREAU, SAN FRANCISCO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH, Health Educator: Assessed training needs for DPH staff involved in Family Health Bureau programs. Designed, implemented and coordinated staff trainings on a range of topics, including counseling skills, tobacco cessation, human sexuality, medical updates and cultural competency. Developed training and client education materials. Worked with other staff on revision of protocols, quality assurance, community organizing and outreach, proposal writing and program planning.

AIDS EDUCATION FOR YOUTH PROJECT, National Training Center Coordinator: Worked with representatives of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local educational agencies to develop the state/city teams which attended the center's six day-long training and strategic planning program. Assessed team training needs and designed and implemented formative evaluation tools for the trainings. Developed and implemented training designs for the Center's general training, and its training-of-trainers. Wrote training manuals for same.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD ALAMEDA/SAN FRANCISCO, Community Relations/Education Specialist: Developed, delivered and evaluated educational presentations and series on human sexuality and reproductive health for a diverse range of clients, including high-risk and homeless youth. Planned and implemented trainings for community-based organizations, schools, colleges and governmental agencies. Coordinated Speakers Bureau and other special programs.

CHILDRENS THEATRE EXPERIENCE

STOCKTON CHILDRENS CONSERVATORY THEATRE, Instructor, Registration Coordinator, Make-Up Designer: Organized and conducted weekend workshop series in acting and stage craft for youth, ages 10 - 16. Designed fantasy make-up and masks for the theatre's annual summer productions. Supervised youth who executed the same.

YOUTH INVOLVEMENT PROJECT, Drama Program Coordinator: Taught classes in acting, storytelling and stage craft to youth, ages 11 - 17, who lived in public housing projects in Stockton, California. Assisted youth in planning and conducting fund-raisers. Directed numerous theatrical productions.

SOUTH STOCKTON COMMUNITY THEATRE, Youth Advisor, Stage Manager, Make-Up/Costume Designer: This annual, summer theatre program targeted high-risk and out-of-school youth of color, ages 14 - 18, who staged and performed musicals such as "Pippin" and "Guys and Dolls."
